IPMA certification program provides a thorough assessment of project management competence. There are four levels of certifications, beginning at Level A: Certified Projects Director, followed by Senior Project Manager (Level B), and Certified Project Manager (Level C). While PMP(r) focuses more on specific processes and tools than IPMA does; their certificates instead focus on overall process and practice of project management – making them ideal for anyone aspiring to a career in project management.
IPMA’s member country associations serve as certifying bodies, setting their own requirements. While requirements can differ between countries, here are some general ones: three years experience as well as attainment of at least 80% of Project Management Domain CEs within an environment with moderate complexity; exam material drawn from IPMA Individual Competence Baseline (ICB).
Assessment

Recertification
IPMA certifications provide project managers with valuable credibility, opening up greater career prospects. In many instances, employers will offer time off or reimburse for Course Fees to facilitate certification – it is key that your chosen program fits the needs of your organization.
This 4-level certification scheme is widely recognized. The global competence standard, ICB 4, serves as the framework for qualifications and assessment processes.
After successfully passing Level C assessments, candidates will receive their IPMA certificate and become certified project management professionals (CertPMPs). The assessment process mirrors those used at levels B and A; an interview will take place with two virtually present PMA assessors who will assess your report as well as PM competences according to ICB4. These include contextual, personal and behavioural competencies along with technical ones.
Fees
IPMA Level C certification requires at least five years of project management experience, with at least three of those years spent as a leader. They must also have been accountable for at least one large complex project. Their application process is more stringent than PMI’s, featuring a project report, interview and on-site assessment as part of the assessment.
